FIVE policemen are taking on an epic cycling and driving challenge for charity.
They will be travelling a combined total of 2,400 miles from north Wales to Barcelona, via Attleborough, to raise money for East Anglia's Children's Hospices (Each) and the town's Chapel Road special school.
Starting in July, PC Les Maguire will set off on his pushbike on the 400-mile journey from the north
west coast of Wales to Attleborough. He will then join his colleagues, PCSO Gary Szabo, Sgt Mark Glister and Pcs Martin Fallon and Pete Warby, to begin the motorised section of the challenge.
The team will then clamber in to an old banger, valued at just 250, and set off on
a four- day, 2,000-mile adventure, with Barcelona as their goal.
During the trip, they will be foregoing luxurious hotels and getting back to basics with camping and pre-packed meals.
Danielle Clarke of Each said the charity relies on public support for the vast majority of its income.
"Sponsored events such as this make a real difference, and help us to continue our work caring for life-threatened children and their families," she added.
The police team visited Quidenham Children's Hospice on Monday with pupils and teachers from Chapel Road School.
The charity also has
centres at Ipswich and Milton in Cambridgeshire.
