Firefighters from South Norfolk and Suffolk have been called to tackle the third fire at Fersfield, near Diss, in three days as tinder dry ground condition continue.

Crews from Diss, Thetford and Eye were called in to deal with five acres of standing crops and stubble alight in Bates Lane close to the South Norfolk village at shortly after 1pm today.

A Norfolk Fire Service spokesman said firefighters used beaters and a misting unit and water from a hydrant and undertook measures to surround the fields on fire.

This latest blaze follows firefighters having to douse a large rubbish blaze at 11.30am on Friday.

That was believed to have re-ignited after being originally been put out by crews and involved a large quantity of rubbish at the same site.
