Police are stepping up their patrols in Diss after a wheelie bin was torched by arsonists, which caused damaged to a nearby block of flats.

Firefighters were called to the latest deliberate blaze last night after a bin was set alight in Stark Close sometime between 10.30pm and 11pm.

The incident is the latest in a series of bin and hedge fires in the Diss area over the last two weeks.

PC Ian Brown said it was “fortunate” that no-one was injured.

“This is a concerning set of offences. This latest incident has caused extensive damage to plastic fascia and windows of nearby flats.

“At this time we are not linking the incidents and we are keeping an open mind.”

“We are determined to identify those responsible and will be working very closely with colleagues in Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service and the community to track them down. Police will be maintaining a high visibility presence in the area over the coming days,” he said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Ian Brown at Diss police station on 0845 456 4567 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
