The floral patterned sofa bed appeared at the junction between Mere Street, Park Road, and Victoria Road in Diss yesterday.

It is believed the sofa may have been left as a donation for one of the charity shops nearby, which are not claiming responsibility for now soggy piece of furniture.

A British Red Cross statement on leaving donations said: “If the shop is closed, please don’t leave donations outside the shop. Your valuable donations left outside might be stolen, become unhygienic or be ruined by bad weather.”

As well as donating them to charity shops, unwanted sofas can be taken to County Council recycling centres. The nearest to Diss are in Eye, Thetford and Snetterton.

Fly-tipping is a criminal offence punishable by a fixed penalty notice, unlimited fine or imprisonment of up to five years.
