The re-launch of Wymondham Abbey's building development scheme has touched the hearts and pockets of local golfers.
Each year Wymondham Golf Society puts money aside for charity, and its fund for 2008 has been donated to the Abbey.
Roger Hare, founder of Middletons, the Wymondham department store, said: 'Our committee was pleased to donate its charity fund to such a good cause - the new amenities are much needed and will be of real benefit to the whole community.'
Eddie Aldous, chairman of Wymondham Golf Society, and proprietor of The Feathers Public House in Town Green Wymondham, presented the cheque for 350 to The Reverend Canon Christopher Davies who expressed his delight at receiving such a handsome donation.
Also attending the ceremony, which took place in the churchyard of the Abbey, was Roger Hare, and Anita Wilson who is helping to raise funds for the development project. The Abbey is planning an ambitious scheme including new buildings with displays, facilities for music and the arts and a varied education programme. Watch this space!
On Monday, July 6, Bawburgh Golf Club is hosting a golf competition, followed by a steak barbeque and auction of promises. Profits from the day will be donated to the Wymondham Abbey development fund. For more details and entry forms contact Anita Wilson on 01953 600991.
