Rail bosses apologise as Greater Anglia disruption continues

Greater Anglia has apologised for escalating problems with its new multi-million pound trains after more than 80 services were cancelled in East Anglia.

The operator has suspended some services on Tuesday between Peterborough and Ipswich, Norwich and Sheringham, Norwich and London Liverpool Street, Cambridge and Ipswich, Lowestoft and Norwich, Great Yarmouth and Norwich, and Felixstowe and Ipswich.

The train company warned passengers the disruption would continue "until further notice", and advised customers to keep up to date with the latest changes via its live journey checker.

It follows the cancellation of around 150 cancellations on Monday.

In a statement, Mark Budden, Network Rail Anglia route director, and Jamie Burles, Greater Anglia managing director, said: "We are extremely sorry for the continued disruption to passengers using regional routes in Norfolk and Suffolk.

"Our engineers have been working round the clock to investigate why we are having problems with the track signalling system, which has led to us reducing the number of services we can run.

"We both fully appreciate that this situation is extremely frustrating for passengers and it is an absolute priority for us to get these problems resolved as soon as possible.

"We will provide a further update as soon as we have more detail."
