Young farmers in Harleston have completed a gruelling fundraising challenge to raise money for a Norfolk cancer charity.

From the comfort of their own club house members from the Harleston Young Farmers Club completed the Big 3 for Big C event.

Past and present members came together over the last May bank holiday weekend to row the length of the Thames on a rowing machine, cycle the distance of Land's End to John O' Groats on an exercise bike and run from Norwich to Paris on a treadmill - totalling 1,461 miles.

More than £400 has been raised from the challenge so far which will be donated towards the Big C, a Norfolk-based charity which helps people with cancer.

The challenge started at 6pm on Friday with the rowing leg of the campaign finishing at 11.53pm on Saturday.

The cycling was completed in the early hours of Monday morning at 2.04am and possibly the most gruelling activity out of the three was the running, which completed the end of the marathon fundraiser and finished at 11.09am on Monday.

The team aged between 16 and 30 hoped to complete the feat of endurance in 72 hours but the young farmers smashed their target six hours ahead of schedule.

Club leader Helen Reeve said: 'It was the first time in the club's 77 years that a charity activity of this scale had taken place, which was physically and mentally exhausting.

'Massive congratulations to everyone for coming together to help out with such a fantastic event and to raise much-needed funds for Big C.'

In the last 10 years the Harleston club has donated more than £15,000 to charity.

The club's next charity event is their annual clay shoot which will take place on Sunday, June 14 from midday in Mendham.
