PLANS are being drawn up in Hethersett to improve facilities on the Memorial Playing Field.

PLANS are being drawn up in Hethersett to improve facilities on the Memorial Playing Field.

The Hethersett Memorial Playing Field Committee is working with local sports groups and other organ-isations to provide better changing facilities, comm-unity rooms, new play equipment and improved access.

The facilities play host to Hethersett Athletic Football Club, Hethersett Bowls Club and Hethersett Hawks Cycle Speedway Club.

"We are determined to improve the facilities and there is a determination from all the groups to work together to achieve this," said Jim Bartram, chairman of the playing field committee.

"We have made great strides forward already."

Plans are being drawn up to build a new changing area and turn the existing building into a meeting room with kitchen. The group is also looking into obtaining grants to replace and add to existing play equipment.

The group has already overseen the lopping of trees along the roadside and carried out drainage and improvement work to the existing football pitches.

It has received a £5,000 grant from Grass Roots to provide a path from the Woodcote Sheltered Hous-ing complex to Ketts Close to give residents easier access to the village centre.

The plans are supported by South Norfolk district councillor David Bills who said: "We will be consulting with the community every step of the way."
