A south Norfolk architectural salvage company is consolidating its business under one roof and expanding the main premises at Hingham.

The relocation of Mongers' reclaimed timber operation from a local farm to the more central location at Market Place will also see 500 lots go under the hammer, in a two-day auction in April conducted by TW Gaze of Diss.

Sam Coster, proprietor of Mongers, said the company is always looking for better ways to display its large range of stock. And the opportunity has arisen to create more space at their main showroom facility in Hingham, where the firm has been based since 1997.

'We are planning to bring a greater proportion of the items into our Market Place premises which will enable our customers to enjoy viewing everything under one roof. Like all architectural salvage companies up and down the country, we tend to buy everything we see and then, because we have nowhere to put them, it ends up in storage,' he explained.

Mr Coster said they were fortunate to have Gaze's auctioneers in the district as their experience in architectural salvage sales is enormous.

'We thought that this was an ideal opportunity to team up with Gaze and make space for our expansion project,' he added.

The lots include a large pair of Georgian driveway gates, an Edwardian porch with leaded lights, a restored 18th century marble chimney, woodworking machinery, oak and pine beams and panelling, art-deco and other sanitaryware, stone troughs and garden antiques. Mr Coster said many items will be sold without reserve.

The sale takes place at Gaze's sale ground at Roydon Road, Diss, from 10am on Saturday April 4, and at Monger's premises in Hingham from 10am on Sunday April 5.
