Norfolk butcher defends his title for best sausage

A Norfolk butcher is hoping his sausages go off with a bang when he takes part in the best sausage contest at the end of the month.
Owner of D.A.Browne & Son Butchers in Diss, Danny Browne, is currently the reigning champion of the Waveney Valley Sausage contest.
But on Sunday August 27 he will be up against ten other contestants at the Burston Crown pub to defend his title which he won in 2013.
He said: 'We're looking to take the title back on Sunday - I'm hopeful, but I don't want to count my chickens or my sausages just yet.'
The 43-year-old butcher has been working in the shop since he left school and is the third generation of Brownes to manage the popular butchers.

His grandfather Daniel Browne first set up the family business in Diss in 1935 and the family still run a proper, old-fashioned butchers.
The trickiest part of the competition was choosing which two types of sausages to enter the sausage maker admitted.

'We have 35 different varieties of sausages from sun-dried tomato and basil to sea-salt sage and cracked black pepper.
'Picking two to put into the competition was the hardest thing to do, and of course we'll be keeping that top secret,' he said.
Steve Kembery, owner and chef at the Burston Crown commented: 'The secret for me is to ensure that each tasting experience is as good as the next to give everyone a fair chance to win.
'We are taking two types of sausage from each butcher and winning is by public vote on the day.'
His wife Bev Kembery added: 'It is such a privilege for us to be able to support other local businesses like this.
'The winning sausage will feature on our menu and can lead to a long-term relationship as a supplier.
'Importantly people get to experience excellent local produce that is available from the best and highly talented artisan butchers in the region'.
The contest is part of the Big 5 Family Funday which begins at 1pm at the Burston Crown pub on Sunday August 27. There is no entry fee.
