A new Christmas light designed by schoolgirl Lauren Gillingwater was the star attraction at Friday night's celebrations in Harleston.

The primary school pupil was the winner of a creative kids competition, and was joined by Radio Norfolk presenters Graham Barnard and Karen Buchanan as she switched on the festive display. Her jolly smiling reindeer made a welcome addition to the colourful show.

Crowds thronged the shopping centre and there was a carnival atmosphere as a stilt walking Jack Frost and cuddly snowmen paraded through the streets. The Britannia Handbell Ringers from Loweestoft added a magical tone as they performed to an appreciative audience beneath sparkling icicle lights outside the Swan Hotel.
