A farmers' market is celebrating almost two decades in business this weekend.
Starting out with six vendors in 2001, the farmers’ market in North and South Lopham will this Saturday feature 20 East Anglian food and drink producers, including two gin distilleries from the area, Heart of Suffolk and Peacheys Spirits.
One of the organisers, Mike Shipperlee, said although the market had a difficult start, the villagers are proud of what is now a thriving event on the fourth Saturday of each month.
The Lophams resident of 20 years said: “Our first market was in February 2001, just prior to the start of the dreadful foot and mouth outbreak.
“The crisis closed us for a couple of months but certainly didn’t take the wind out of our sails, and like all our local producers we bounced back strongly from the adversity.”
The event will be from 9am to 12pm at the Lophams’ Village Hall.
