Trains in and out of Norwich were severely disrupted last night after a man was killed by a train.

British Transport Police are investigating the incident which happened at about 5pm at the Tivetshall level crossing, near Diss, but said it was “non-suspicious”.

Commuters faced delays of up to 60 minutes from about 5pm to 8pm with buses replacing trains between Norwich and Diss.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “BTP can confirm that a man, believed to be in his 40s and from Ipswich, died after being struck by a train near to Tivetshall level crossing on Monday 11 January.”

“The incident was reported to police at 5.03pm and was attended by BTP, Norfolk Constabulary and paramedics from the local ambulance service.

“The train involved was the 3.00pm Liverpool Street to Norwich service. The incident is being treated as non-suspicious.

“The line was handed back to Network Rail at 7.35pm. A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
