A churchyard has been cordoned off after a body was found.
Police were called at 8.56am on Tuesday, April 30, to reports that the body of a man had been found in the grounds of St Mary's Church, Diss.
A seal has been placed around the location and Church Street between Market Hill and Chapel Street is closed.
David Webber, 80, has been running the Keyhole gift shop next to the church for the past 13 years.
He said: “I got to the shop at about 9.05am and when I was walking up the road I saw the police with their lights on and an ambulance.
“At the time I didn't know what had happened but as customers started to come into the shop I found out it was a body.”
Mr Webber moved to Diss in 2006 after working in diamond mines in the south of Africa.
He added: “I moved to Diss because it had twice the amount of sun than anywhere else in the UK.
“I don't know much about what happens we will have to wait and see.”
Another shop worker, who wished not to be named, said: “I can only think of the family, there has been a lot of talk in the town today but we must see what the police say.
“I didn't know anything about it until I came in. We are not that shocked as unfortunately it has become the norm with what you see on television.”
Police enquiries are in the early stages to try and establish the circumstances leading up to the man's death which is being treated as unexplained at this stage.
