DISS mayor Simon Olander yesterday opened a new garden at a community support centre in the town.

Mr Olander officially unveiled the garden at the Denny Centre in Thomas Manning Road where Age Concern Norfolk offers day services on a Tuesday and a Friday for people with dementia.

More than £5,000 was raised to fund the garden and various organisations including South Norfolk Council, Tesco Charity Trust and Anglia Regional Co-operative Society donated. Judith Head, day services co-ordinator, said: “The garden area at the centre has been completely refurbished with new raised flower beds which will enable our service users to independently participate during gardening sessions and also provide an attractive visual display for service users, staff and visitors.”
