The Vikings cricket team will play the Stradbroke Vikings tomorrow in memory of a young Royal Anglian soldier who died in Afghanistan.
Talented cricketer Private James Grigg was killed in an explosion in Helmand Province whilst on his first tour of duty with the 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment in March.
His regiment cricket team will play his village cricket team at Stradbroke this afternoon as a tribute to the 21-year-old.
The Royal Anglian Regiment cricket club will play a Stradbroke Vikings select XI in a Twenty20 match at Wilby Road, Stradbroke, starting at 4pm, which will raise funds for the James Grigg Youth Cricket Trust.
A memorial garden has already been dedicated in memory of Pte Grigg who was a passionate cricketer and junior coach for the village team.
Michael Hugman the chairman of Stradbroke Cricket Club, which was renamed the Vikings in Pte Grigg's memory, said: 'I am delighted that the Vikings are playing our own Vikings as part of our club day.'
'Pte Grigg expressly wanted youth cricket to benefit through the club, and with the blessing of James' family a trust has been set up.'
