Men are being encouraged to join slimming groups by a south Norfolk weight-loss expert.
Latest data from NHS Digital shows that 68pc of men are overweight or obese compared to 58pc of women. The Men's Health Forum and Slimming World are calling for men to get support to lose weight.
Jo Gilbert, who runs the Long Stratton Slimming World groups said: 'Figures show that men typically keep weight worries to themselves for as long six years, as many just don't like to ask for help. The good news though, is that more and more men are becoming open to the idea of getting support.
'It's definitely not a one-way street – the men in my group bring an enormous amount to the rest of us too. They're fun and friendly and help ensure that our group is always full of laughter. We'd love to welcome more blokes to group and so my message to men who are worried about their weight is to come along and give Slimming World a try.'
Phil Ellery, from Long Stratton who has lost 3st 9.5lb since November 2017, said: 'In the early to mid 2000's I was diagnosed with type two diabetes and with a failing liver, I was advised that at some point I would need a full liver transplant.

'Several years later I was having some difficulty with my hip. Due to the hip pain I was unable to carry on doing much physical work. My diabetes was under control with my diet but liver continued to deteriorate and I gained weight.
'In 2011 I gained my new hip the procedure did not go according to plan and I had difficulty gaining my mobility and was gaining more weight. In November 2017 joined Slimming World, probably the best thing I could have done as my will power is practically non existent.
