THE daughter of film star Moira Shearer will be in Diss on Monday at a special screening of the film that made her mother famous.

The Red Shoes shot Shearer to stardom when it was released in 1948 and her daughter Ailsa will be at Diss Film Society's screening of A Martin Scorcese restoration of the film at the Park Hotel on Monday.

At the age of eight, Scorcese fell in love with the film and recently put his money behind restoring the Powell and Pressburger classic which was re-released last year.

It features the story of a young ballerina, split between human passion and artistic devotion. Its ballet sequences, choreographed by Robert Helpmann, are considered masterpieces.

Ailsa has said of the film: 'The restoration really makes the film look contemporary again and the colours are sparkling, although the accents are of a different era!'

Admission to Monday's 8pm screening is 4; members 3; students 2.
