Roadworks don't usually raise a smile but a warning to motorists about resurfacing in a Norfolk town has left residents chuckling.
People passing through or planning to park in Vince's Road in Diss were confronted with giant letters spray painted on the road warning: 'No Parken'.
The quirky misspelling was repeated several times up the length of the road to stop motorists parking as the first of four days of resurfacing work got underway.
Images were quickly shared on social media prompting comments speculating about the writing's true meaning, taking in everything from warnings against ginger cake to whether it had been written to emulate a Norfolk accent.
Though it was certainly eye-catching the messages seemed to have been lost in translation as numerous cars had still been parked on the road hampering work which is due to continue until September 10.
South Norfolk Council is currently consulting about introducing resident permit parking in the area, which is near Diss Station, to stop commuters leaving their cars.
