A display at Diss Library will feature plans for the proposed community woodland that is being established on land at Factory Lane, Roydon.

The land was bought from the Diss Quaker Trust. The Steering Group for the woodland are preparing a management plan that will set out their objectives and proposals for the coming years.

The intention is that the site is to be developed as a woodland and open space nature reserve by the local community and for the benefit of the community.

The draft management plan will feature in the display and members of the public will be invited to make their comments. All comments will be considered by the Steering Group before the plan is finalised. There will also be a chance to discuss the proposals and make comments at a forthcoming forum when Richard Mabey, the local nature writer and broadcaster, will lead the discussion.

The land was part of the Pheasantries Estate but is being renamed Quaker Wood as a reminder of its origins. As a part of the community involvement the children of both Diss and Roydon schools will be planting the trees. A tree nursery has already been established at Diss Church Junior School and young trees from this nursery are among the first to be established at Quaker Wood. Planting will be phased over a long period so that the greatest number of children can be involved.

The exhibition will be on display during normal opening hours at Diss Library from Wednesday, March 4 until Saturday, March 14 and members of the Steering Group will be on hand to answer any questions on Saturday, March 7 from 9am until 1pm.

The forum will be at The Friends Meeting House, Frenze Road, Diss on Wendesday, March 11 immediately following the Project annual meeting which starts at 7.30 pm.
