A HORSE whose fate was seemingly sealed after he lost his one remaining eye at the hands of thugs has been saved by Redwings Horse Sanctuary in Norfolk

Gentle giant Boo was blinded in January after both he and his friend Shetland pony Buckaroo were shot in the eye with an air gun.

The callous attackers, who have never been found, were particularly cruel as the 16.1hh Clydesdale had already lost one eye to cancer.

Buckaroo made a good recovery at their Surrey home, but Boo's future was in doubt. The owners feared they might have to have him put to sleep.

But they approached Redwings, and after consultations with Boo's Surrey vet, the charity offered the horse a permanent home at its headquarters at Hapton, near Long Stratton.

Redwings' chief executive Lynn Cutress said: "We are delighted to report that Boo is making good progress and already he has bonded with the staff who love his warm and kind temperament. We've been touched by his incredible sense of calm, considering what he has been through."
