Plans for new homes in the centre of Pulham St Mary have been refused because they would be an 'unacceptable form of back-land development'.
South Norfolk Council has turned down an application from developers Rural Homes Ltd for four new houses on a site off Norwich Road.
The development, named The Sycamores on the planning application, would have seen four chalet style dwellings built on the overgrown land that currently features two dilapidated sheds.
Pulham St Mary Parish Council was among those who had objected to the plans. In its submission it stated: "The proposed development layout and density is overbearing, it will impact on overlooking and loss of privacy of neighbouring properties and create overshadowing and loss of outlook to the detriment of residential amenity."
Refusing the application, South Norfolk planners said: "The resulting development would appear noticeably cramped within its setting and result in a form of development that is inharmonious with its surroundings and does not maintain or enhance the character or quality of the area."
