A church with a long history of music and singing has reformed its choir after more than 150 years.

The Norfolk West Gallery Quire has welcomed with new members and new enthusiasm to bring life back to the music which was an integral part of worship in England.

A spokesman at Quire said: 'The reintroduction of singing into church after the joyless puritan period mirrored the growing confidence and sense of purpose of the country after war and revolution.

'The amateur quires accompanied by the village band who had come across the street from the pub sang hymns to local popular tunes and certainly livened things up in church.'

The group rehearse in Holy Trinity Church in Spooner Row fortnightly on Wednesdays and are open and welcoming to new members.

They are particularly on the lookout for some more tenors, the higher male voice.
