A village has got a new flashing speed sign to help combat the problem of speeding motorists.

The Vehicle Activated Sign (VAS) has been installed in North Lopham with help from sponsorship.

In December, Norfolk County Council invited local authorities to place bids for road safety projects and successful schemes received 50pc of costs.

North Lopham Parish Council was successful in its bid.

Contact was made with local businesses and residents in an effort to raise the remainder of the cost.

Much of the money was eventually raised and Crown Milling in Kenninghall donated a considerable amount with help from sub-contractors.

A parish council spokesman said: “The problem of vehicles speeding through the village poses a real danger in particular to the young and elderly.

“The street through North Lopham is a fairly straight carriageway yet despite 30mph and new “Think” speed awareness signs, there are those who choose to ignore them.

“We hope this new sign will be a reminder of speed compliance and make the village a safer place for all.”
