A headteacher at a Suffolk high school has credited a recent outstanding inspection report as a 'fine achievement for the whole community'.

Hartismere High School in Eye was handed the glowing verdict by Ofsted after an inspection last month.

The school and its sixth form were given the highest possible ratings in nearly every category by inspectors, and headteacher James McAtear, who joined the school in 2006, said it was a 'lovely' achievement for everyone involved.

He said: 'The 'outstanding' grade is the highest Ofsted can award. This is a lovely achievement for an exceptionally talented team of staff at the school. It is also a very fine achievement for everyone associated with the school.

'Pupils have been superb, parents have been the most supportive I have ever worked with and the PTA, governors and many other friends of the school deserve enormous credit.'

Five inspectors visited the school and in their report they commented that Mr McAtear and his deputies had made a 'dramatic and beneficial impact' since their appointment and had 'exceptional capacity to improve further.'

In a letter to students, lead inspector Peter Thompson told them he had been particularly impressed by their attitude in class and behaviour around the school.
