Parishioners, family and colleagues gathered for a special service St Andrew's Church, Fersfield, on Sunday to celebrate the silver anniversary of the Rev Ben Sasada's ordination to the priesthood.

He first served as a curate in the Dickleburgh group of parishes, then as a curate to Diss and then returned to the Dickleburgh Benefice as priest in charge. He has also helped many parishes in Norfolk and Suffolk in times of interregnums and holiday cover. He is an honorary rector in the Upper Waveney Benefice.

The rector of the Upper Waveney Benefice, the Rev Rob Mellowship said: “There cannot be many people in the Diss area who don't know Ben and his wife Rene. They have been serving the community here either as teacher, nurse, lay reader, priest and priest's wife since 1954 and if there can be such a thing as a walking sacrament they both are. Ben and Rene are genuinely nice people who live their faith 24/7 and that it is a real privilege to have both of them as friends and colleagues.”
