More than 100 residents gathered in Diss Market Place to watch a Spitfire flypast and a reading from actor Richard Gibson - who played Gestapo officer Herr Flick in the hit television series ‘Allo ‘Allo - during Sunday’s event.

The afternoon of activity, which also included performances by the Norwich Early Dance Group on the theme of the vanished England swept away by the war, was organised by Diss Museum to mark the centenary of the start of the war.

Basil Abbott, the museum’s manager, said: “This is Diss paying homage to the war dead and the sacrifices our local people made.”
