The success of an initiative that places free ping pong tables in community spaces is set to expand to Costessey, Diss and Long Stratton.

Last year, South Norfolk Council's Ping! Festival saw four permanent outdoor table tennis tables being homed at Hethersett Memorial Playing Field, Mulbarton Village Hall, Poringland Community Centre and Harleston Leisure Centre.

The Ping! project is now being rolled out across both South Norfolk and Broadland after Table Tennis England awarded funding for six new permanent tables.

Two tables, complete with bats and balls and free to play, will be placed in Broadland and four in South Norfolk. The locations confirmed so far are the Costessey Centre, opposite the newly revamped Long Stratton Leisure Centre and on Fair Green in Diss.

South Norfolk Cabinet member Yvonne Bendle said: 'The six new tables will be available to help residents of all ages increase their fitness levels and encourage residents who are not currently physically active to have a go.'
