Planners have recommended turning the former workshop of a Diss builder who specialised in the maintenance of listed buildings into three new houses be given the go-ahead.

The former workshop of John Taylor on Shelfanger Road is a brick-built building that was formerly 18th and 19th century stables which formed part of a brewery.

Plans to turn it into three new homes and for the demolition of a more modern lean-to structure are set to be decided by South Norfolk Council development management committee on July 24 with officers recommending approval.

In a report they state: "The size, design and access to the building is such that alternative employment use is unlikely to be found."

Mr Taylor, who worked on period properties and churches, including the oak structure on top of St Mary's Church in Diss, had been based in the former builder's yard since 1986 but retired earlier this year.
