Poundland has moved to reassure shoppers that it has no plans to quit Diss despite widespread rumours that its store could close.
The budget retailer has been a presence on Mere Street, the town's main shopping thoroughfare, since 2015 when it took over a building once occupied by Woolworths.
Rumours circulating on social media suggesting the store could be about to close had prompted a large number of comments.
Last June South Norfolk Council granted permission for the store to be split into two smaller units. Documents submitted with the application stated: 'When the current retail tenant vacates the property, the landlord intends to take the opportunity to split the current premises into two separate shop units, as they consider these will be easier to let in the current market.'
However a spokesman for Poundland denied they had any plans to close. 'We have no plans to leave the store we rent from a landlord in Diss. We are open and trading,' they said.
