Spike the Hedgehog got quite a surprise when he visited the litterpickers at Banham Primay School on Friday.
He was very impressed that they were ready to pick up all the litter in Banham to protect his furry wildlife friends.
Spike and his friend Michelle from Breckland Council told the children how thoughtless dropping litter can be by harming wildlife and the countryside.
The children got the point and gave Spike high fives and hugs before they embarked on a litter pick in the village. A total of 20 bags of rubbish were collected by litterpickers of all ages.
Banham Parish Council organised quizzes and prizes for the most unusual litter found. Items ranged from shoes, road signs, jewellery and a glass bowl to a tooth in the churchyard.
Over sandwiches and drinks, the parish clerk addressed the litterpickers and declared the event a resounding success. There are plans for more events in the future.
Meanwhile, the message is 'Please take your litter home, otherwise Spike and his friends could get in a prickle!'
