A town centre road in Diss, which last week reopened after a month-long closure, is set to shut again next year for a footpath and resurfacing scheme.

Norfolk County Council is proposing to extend the footway along Chapel Street to help improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians.

The plans, which have been in the pipeline since 2005, could start in February and would see the creation of a footpath from the East Anglia's Children's Hospice charity shop to the junction of Mere Street.

The news comes after Chapel Street was closed for four weeks as a result of Anglian Water sewer repairs.

The road is expected to remain open for the eight week footpath works, but will be closed for carriageway resurfacing, scheduled to take place from April.
