A village hall is in the money thanks to the generosity of shoppers and the Co-op Local in Rickinghall.

The village hall in Rickinghall has received money donated through the Pick up a Penny promotion, in which every time a customer handed in a shopping till receipt, a penny was donated to the cause.

Rosie Cole, store manager at the Co-op Local in Rickinghall, handed the cheque for 150 over to the Village Hall Committee and some of the children from the village hall. The money will be used towards building a new playground for the hall for the local children to enjoy.

Bob Clarke, village hall committee member said: 'We are delighted with this initiative and the support from the local community. We have over 500 bookings for the hall this year and this highlights the demand for the hall and a new playground.

'We appreciate the Co-op Local's support in helping us to achieve our new playground.'
