Norfolk County Council has funded a new hall, classrooms, entrance and a staff room at Forncett St Peter Primary School, with major remodelling of the existing school building. The project was designed by NPS Property Consultants Ltd, with T Gill and Sons the builders.

Children at the Victorian school will welcome the Bishop of Norwich tomorrow to commemorate the completion of the project. The Bishop will perform a service of dedication and will then cut a ribbon to formally open the extension.

Gill Ottewell, headteacher at Forncett St Peter Primary School, said the school's 73 pupils were already making good use of the building.

“This project has had a huge impact on everyone at the school. We cannot speak highly enough of the builders who, throughout the project, have worked alongside staff to ensure that not only has there has been a minimum of disruption to the children's learning, but that every opportunity has been taken to involve them.

“The new extension really complements the old Victorian building and our children are enjoying being taught in this marvellous new environment. Both children and staff are particularly relishing the enhanced curriculum opportunities which have been afforded by the long awaited new school hall.”

Members of the community, as well as past pupils and staff, are invited to attend the school on Friday evening between 6pm and 8.30pm, for their chance to see the improvements.

Rosalie Monbiot, county council cabinet member for children's services, said: “It is brilliant to hear that the staff and pupils at Forncett St Peter are already making such good use of their new facilities.

“We know that the environment children are taught in can have an impact on their learning and I am sure these new classrooms and new school will benefit many hundreds of pupils in the years to come.”
