Penelope Dakin, five, from Harleston, was attending the WOW Music Festival in Diss when she was invited on stage by Suffolk singer-songwriter Bessie Turner.

Her mother Carrie Chapman, 41, a cover supervisor at Diss High School, was proud to see her on stage.

She said: 'Penelope made some little friends there on the day and she was just doing her stuff in front of the stage when Bessie Turner asked what her name was and asked if she wanted to go on stage. Obviously she said yes and ran straight round onto the stage.'

The reception pupil at Palgrave Primary School danced for three songs with the band in front of a crowd of hundreds.

Ms Chapman added: 'She addressed the audience on the microphone and shouted out 'are you ready WOW?' And then they let her have a go on the guitar.

'But she tried to interrupt the third song because she needed a drink of water. She does her own unique style of dancing to interpret the music, it was quite emotional.

'It made me cry, it was so lovely and our friends and other mums there said she did so well. It was a very proud moment.

'She loved her time on stage and she told it was the best day ever and then when she got down she immediately started to help people put up more chairs for the next performance. She was very keen to put on a show.'

Although this was her first time on stage the youngster has been going to the festival since she was just five-months-old.

Penelope was so excited about her time on stage that when her parents got her a new kitten she named it after Bessie Turner.

Bessie Turner is a singer-song writer from Suffolk and has made an appearance on Jo Whiley's BBC Radio 2 to perform after a producer saw her at The Woolpack, in Ipswich.

WOW Festival is an acoustic, roots and ska festival that takes place every year in June at Woolsey Bridge Fields, near Diss.
