A sports club at Diss has been allowed to extend its opening hours and range of activities despite opposition from neighbouring residents. Heywood Sports and Racquet Club - formerly Diss Squash Club - changed hands earlier this year and the new owner, Traditional English Properties will now be permitted to have boxing and wrestling matches, live music and dancing at the Walcot Road premises.

South Norfolk Council received 17 objections from householders in Walcot Road, whose main concerns were late noise disturbance and increased traffic at the site, which is next to Diss High School.

Consent was granted last Thursday by the council's licensing committee.
