A 13-year-old DJ is one step closer to achieving his dream of starting a children's radio station in Norfolk - and presenters are already recording practice shows.

Young Josh Worley from Long Stratton, the brainchild behind the ambitious project, wants to be a radio presenter to bring a bit of cheer to his audience.

'Every time you play a song it's going to be someone's favourite song,' he said.

He has been presenting his own online radio show from his bedroom for two years, and is keen to make the next step towards his goal of becoming a professional DJ on Radio One.

'It started quite a few years ago. Me and my friend went on Radio Norfolk, and I thought 'I could really get into this',' he said.

Last year, he took the idea of forming a radio station run by children, for children, to local councillors.

In less than a year he has won almost 20,000 of funding for his scheme.

Switch Radio, which will be staffed entirely by teenagers, began recording shows yesterday to practice for its broadcast launch at the start of the school year next month.

The station will be overseen by children's interest group, South Norfolk Youth Action, and will be based at the Long Stratton Leisure Centre.

South Norfolk Council unanimously granted planning approval yesterday to turn a bar at the centre into a permanent sound studio for the station.

'For a minimum of the first year it's going to be on the internet. If we can raise enough funds, we're going to try to broadcast on FM,' said Josh.

'We've got around 20 people getting involved so far. We've got a few DJs, and we've also got producers.'

'The only adults we're going to have on board are to monitor.'
