Harleston Information Plus this week celebrated becoming the first small independent organisation in Norfolk to be awarded the national investing in volunteers accreditation.
The standard enables organisations comprehensively to review their volunteer management, and also publicly demonstrates their commitment to volunteering.
The Harleston organisation has 18 fully-trained volunteers who help to run the community information centre and a carers' support group, and seven volunteer directors. And it was encouraged to work towards the accreditation - which took a year to achieve -by Voluntary Norfolk, which also covered the costs.
Julie Helsby, the Harleston Information Plus project support worker who oversaw the process, said: “Our organisation would not run without volunteers. It was important to us to have policies and procedures in place that help volunteers to feel involved and enjoying the work that they do.
“Working towards the standard was not difficult; I would recommend it to anyone working with volunteers.”
