A new benefit system has been introduced to a south Norfolk market town.
From Wednesday, May 9, Universal Credit will support all benefit claimants in Diss.
The new type of benefit replaces six different benefits including; housing benefit, child tax credits, working tax credits, income support, jobseekers’ allowance and employment support allowance with one monthly payment.
The service aims to simplify the welfare system and help people who are in work increase their hours and pay.
Stephen Lankester, Jobcentre plus district operations leader, said: “Universal Credit offers tailored support, which includes more personalised help from a work coach.
“Our staff are trained to support people throughout the claim process. We’d encourage anyone who needs extra help or information to come and talk to their work coach.”
Universal Credit is currently being rolled out across the region.
