Violence and sexual offences top the list of crime statistics released by the Home Office for Diss and the surrounding area.

The report issued on the Police.uk website shows crime figures recorded by Norfolk Constabulary between May 2016 and April 2017.

There were 354 offences of a violent and sexual nature reported which made up 27.85% of the crime in the area.

The second most common crime was anti-social behaviour with a total of 301 incidents recorded for the 12 month period.

Leader of Diss Town Council, Graham Minshull said: “I am aware that the police have changed the way they record violent crime.

“Traditionally Diss has been a low crime area - we are one of the safest place in the country.

“It’s one of the benefits of living in our town that we enjoy such low levels of crime and anti-social behaviour compared to other parts of the country.”
