Well now the Mercury could help you!

As reported last week, we are teaming up with Norwich sports store Pilch and Wymondham Athletic Club to sponsor a new runner to get fit for the New Year's Day 10k (six-mile) race.

That will include new kit and running shoes and special high-tech gait analysis from Pilch, plus help and advice and a personal training schedule provided by the experts at Wymondham AC.

The Mercury wants to hear from people who are serious about taking up running with a view to a sensible challenge in about three months.

Once we have selected a runner we will follow their progress and print training schedules for anyone else thinking of taking part in the New Year 10k. We would also print the story of their efforts on the big day.

All you have to do is tell us why you want to be our sponsored runner - in no more than 150 words. We will look at all the entries and select the most deserving or inspiring potential athlete to receive this top-level help.

Just fill in the coupon on this page and add your reasons on a separate piece of paper. Send it to the address on the coupon. Entries must be received by Monday. Or you can e-mail tim.warner@archant.co.uk marking your e-mail Wymondham 10k.

Remember we are looking for novice or near-novice runners who are looking for a challenge and are serious about this undertaking.

The successful applicant must be fit and able to take part in the 10k race. Terms and conditions will apply. Usual Archant competiton rules apply.
