He may only be six, but one kart racing youngster from South Norfolk, already has his sights set on a podium finish as he lands backing from a British Touring Car Championship team.
Logan Howes, from Bunwell near Attleborough, is a young go karter who hopes to one day follow in the foot steps of his motor racing idol, Fernando Alonso.
And now, ahead of the The Bambino Kart Club Championships (BKC) the UK’s largest karting championship for Logan’s age group, the young racer has secured backing from the British Touring Car Championship team, Power Maxed -becoming only the second young karter to be backed by a touring team.
Logan, who balances training, with school whilst still trying to be a normal six-year-old regularly puts in up to 10 hours a week on the track.
When asked what he loved about karting, the Carleton Rode Primary School pupil said it was the speed, and “trying to beat everyone to win the race.”
In the London Karting Cup, held in November Logan came fourth in the heats before being knocked out in the final race and it is hoped by James Howes, Logan’s father that the publicity of having a backer will attract sponsors to help to fund Logan’s hobby.
He said: “We are able to fund Logan’s passion but to be at the top level, the funding has to keep coming.
Mr Howes explained how one of the major costs of the sport is engine maintenance, as in order to keep the engines running at competitive speeds they need to be rebuilt after so many hours on the track.
“By looking for sponsors, it gives others the chance to show their support to a local child and get to be associated with the team.
“Logan always puts in his hard work it would be great to see someone else put in that support and reap the rewards with him.”
Logan is now preparing for the first race on the year at the end of January before the karting season gets under way in March.
