Two juveniles arrested in connection with criminal damage at Diss Church Junior School have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

The school was forced to close for the day on Wednesday after vandals smashed 49 panes of glass, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage and leaving shattered glass strewn about the playground and inside the buildings and classrooms.

Headteacher Keith Ridgway said it was only due to the hard work of members of staff who carried out a massive clean-up operation and the efforts of a local builder that the school was able to open yesterday .

He said he was alerted at 10pm on Tuesday - the incident having taken place between 8pm and 8.30pm that night at the premises in The Entry. Mr Ridgway said the cost of repairing the damage is in the region of £5,500.

Police are continuing to appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any information, to contact Diss Police Station on 0845 456 4567 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
