Big fish were on the cards for Diss Angling Club when they arrived at Hinderclay fisheries last Sunday morning. With a lack of wind, there were fears for a hard day for those who had chosen to fish the method, but an hour-and-a-half into the match those fears were banished when a carp came to the net, which turned out to be the biggest fish to be landed in a match so far this season.

Barry Day not only claimed this fish, but first place with it.

Fishing from the shallows on peg 22, Day used the feeder as his main attack. As soon as the tip wrapped round, Day knew he was into a very big fish and after a 15-minute fight, Barry slipped the net under a beautifully marked carp, which weighed 21lb 1oz.

Day added just two other fish to this and ended the day with 40lb 10oz. Robert Peak also landed a good size carp on his way to second place on the day.

Fishing just two pegs away from Day, Peak hooked and landed a carp of 17lb 14oz, plus a few other fish, for his final weight of 38lb 8oz.

Third on the day went to Gary Watkinson with probably the best net of fish of the day, which included three good size tench, crucians and roach, giving Watkinson 22lb 60z.

A reminder that the pike match originally scheduled for Saturday, November 8 has been moved to November 15. It will still be fished at Hoxne with an 8am start.
