David Foulger suffered from this rule, when, after a very long fight with a powerful carp he slipped the net under a 9lb 10 carp which would have won first place. Sadly he ended with 13lb 9oz for third.

Glen Orford came away as the day's winner with a mixed net of fish including crucians, roach and skimmers all taken on maggot and gave Glen 17lb 13oz.

Second place was Keith Rodwell with 13lb 14oz of mixed fish, his bag also include a 3lb plus crucian carp.

The river was the setting for Sunday at Hoxne. Andrew Mears came away as the day winner with 2lb 8�oz and small slivers and a few perch.

Second went to George Wilby with 2lb 6�oz and Billy Crisp took third place with 2lb 2oz.

July 7 on the Mere saw Diss Angling Club's Ben Wilby batten down the hatches when the heavens opened on him.

But he fished on to take first place with a great bag of quality roach and a bonus tench which weighed 4lb 6oz.

Wilby ended the match with 20lb 2oz. Wilby senior took second place as George Wilby set about the roach but also had a few small carp and skimmers on his way to 15lb 2oz.

Third went to Bill Davies with 10lb 2oz.
