Diss returned to winning ways in Norfolk Alliance Division One, and put last week's setback behind them, as they beat Swardeston A by 29 runs.

After losing the toss, the home side asked Diss to bat first on a hot day and they lost Chris Cooper early on when he was bowled by Duncan (1-44).

However skipper Mark Williamson and Barnaby Chenery steadied the innings and saw Diss to 99-1 at the halfway stage. Williamson eventually fell leg before for a well-made 44 but Chenery brought up a deserved half century. Soon after, he was bowled for 54 by Sims (2-49).

That brought brothers Robert and David Tooke to the crease and they pushed the score on before David was run out for 21. David Cokeley (6) and Ashley Cotton (3) both fell cheaply, leaving Diss on 191-6 with seven overs left.

Robert Tooke then began finding the boundary with ease and brought up another important 50. He and Sam Hunt added 62 in just six overs before being caught for a vital 83. Dan Taylor and Hunt (13 not out) accelerated the innings up to an impressive 267-7, after tye former hit 13 off the final over. The home side started comfortably, reaching 44-0 off 11 overs. Hunt (1-21) was drafted into the attack and struck with his second ball, trapping Martin lbw for 20. It was then two wickets in as many overs when Drinkell (25) was well caught by Cokeley off the bowling of Williamson (1-36).

The next Swardeston pair of Levinson and Sims frustrated Diss, but the away side still had the upper hand at the halfway stage with Swardeston on 101-2.

Levinson passed 50, but fell for 55 to Robert Tooke, caught by debutant James Hardy. Hardy (2-27) then dismissed Sims for 22 off his own bowling, leaving Swardeston on 135-4 with a rising run-rate. From then on Diss took wickets at regular intervals with Robert Tooke claiming 3-62 and Williamson taking three catches, including a superb one of the boundary to dismiss Hogg (16).

Cooper (1-35) had Walker caught for 41 and it was all but over for Swardeston. Taylor (2-47) also chipped in with two wickets at the end before Hardy capped a promising debut with the final wicket as Swardeston were dismissed for 238 in the final over.Diss took nine outfield catches and dropped none, which proved crucial.

Diss moved up to third as a result and face fellow high-flyers Thetford at Rectory Meadow next.
