Diss Golf Club's Junior Club Championships took place at the beginning of the month.

The gross championship was won by junior captain Charlie Stammers who beat his nearest challenger Josh Goulton by four shots.

The nett competition was won by Luke Green.

The eight-hole Jill Driver Trophy for high handicaps was won by Alfie Burr with an outstanding score of 25 points.

Alex Lawrie was second and Imogen Potter, making her competition debut, was third. Prizes were presented by club chairman Roger Greenacre.

Special thanks were given to Jenny Chamberlin and Steve Jacques who accompanied the junior golfers on the course during the afternoon.

The annual Hillside Classic, an annual event for players from all sections of the club, has also been staged, with a total of 80 players entering.

It rained quite heavily during the competition and conditions were not ideal. Simon Palmer however returned a very good score of 43 stableford points to win the competition. Jason Petit was second with a good 42 points and Sandra Bowman won the ladies' section with 39 points.

Kerry Enever had the longest ladies' drive and Steve Enever won the men's nearest the pin.

Club Captain Paul Wright extended his thanks to Darren Maskell, owner of Hillside Office Supplies, for his continued sponsorship and is looking forward to next year's competition.

Meanwhile the 28th Dereham Junior Open saw 31 entrants play for the new Claret Jug and the Rivett Trophy, of which 40 per cent were girls.

The inaugural winner of the claret jug for the best scratch score was Dereham's Immy Leeder with a gross 73. In second place was Jack Thorpe (Girton, gross 79).

The Rivett Trophy was won by 11-year-old Nellie Ong (Eaton) who shot a net 64 (100-36-64).
