Diss Golf Club's Lady Captain Jill Driver and Club Captain Paul Wright went to Ely to compete in the regional heat of the Douglas Bader Cup, which has been running for 25 years.
It's the biggest National Mixed Pairs Competition in Europe. Out of the qualifying 36 pairs, Diss Captains won with an impressive score of 43 points (23 out, 20 in.) They now go through to the final which is being held in Portugal in November.
Captain Paul said it was a nice day, with both Jill and himself playing well. He said: “On the second hole - a 158 yard par 3 - Jill took her three wood out and put the ball four foot from the pin for a birdie putt, I moaned she'd put it too close!”
“Jill was driving well and I was hitting my irons well,” he added.
Jill said: “My game was 'on' - my putts were going in and I was striking it well.”
She said that once they had finished, Paul couldn't bring himself to look at the score board as there were still couples finishing behind them and he would have preferred the 23 points in on the back nine in case of a count back.
