County success for Otters

Youngsters from Diss Otters have once again enjoyed some great successes at this year's Norfolk County Swimming Championships.

By the time the month-long championships finished, the Otters had three newly-crowned county champions, four silver medallists, eight bronze and a further 18 top-six finishes.

In the girls 13 year age group, Maya Harris won her first county title in great style when storming home in first place in the final of the 50m breaststroke event.

In the same age group, Katie Nash won gold in the 100m IM. Katie also won bronze medals in the 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly events.

Liam Osborne was the Otters' other county champion, winning gold in the junior men's 50m backstroke event and silver medals in both the 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle.

Alice Waterfield had a memorable championships in the girls 11 year age group, winning silver in the 100m breaststroke, and three bronze medals in the 50m breaststroke, 200m breaststroke and 200m butterfly events. Other individual bronze medal winners were Toby Boom (50m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke) and Ben Sweeting (50m freestyle).

There were a number of other Otters who gained top six finishes, including Pippa Rice, Laura Hayden, Jordan King and Ryan Hargrave.

In the final relay gala of the championships, the girls 11/12 year squad of Hannah Blades, Alice Waterfield, Anna Parsons and Emily Lutkin took a superb silver in the 4 x 50m medley relay to round off a memorable month for the Otters.
