In Hunts County Bats Suffolk Cricket League Division Two Mellis beat Thurston by six wickets.

Thurston batted first and raced to 125 before a wicket fell in the 22nd over.

A Bendall (78) and R Cook (36) took charge, but the first Mellis bowlers (Richard Morgan, Barry Austin, Adam White and David Williamson) all shared in some bad luck as potential catches fell between fielders and snicks became fours on Thurston's small ground.

Just as the Mellis fielders were beginning to flag in the May heat, Doug Spence (2-49) made the first breakthrough.

When Tim Courridge (5-34) caught and bowled Bendall five overs later, Mellis began to apply the brakes.

Some hefty blows from T Francis restored a bit of momentum but Mellis took Thurston's next seven wickets for 75 runs. Neil Spence took two tailenders' wickets and Williamson and Ben Box both held good catches.

In reply, Mellis lost an early wicket while Doug Spence, first with Chris Farrant (14) and then Courridge, powered his way to 75.

The over in which Bendall dismissed the Spence brothers in three balls could have been crucial, but Williamson joined Courridge and they paced the innings to perfection, scoring the winning runs in the 38th over. Courridge was 72no and Williamson 46.
